Thankful Sunday

I am very thankful today. I start a new job on Tuesday! I have been looking for a while with not much luck. I am going to go to work for my father's company, Aquarius Water Refining. I had been feeling a little depressed and thought that I would never find a job, so I was overjoyed when my father offered me the position with his company. I know that things are going to turn around for us now financially, it's such a great feeling of hope.

This is the office

and below is my brothers Mike and Joe Jr. and my dad Joe Sr.
What are you thankful for today?

This man was an angel

Genesis 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

I used vintage scripture pages from a 1950's children's bible story book and an original vintage black and white photo to create this one of a kind primitive folk art angel painting.

The angel's clothing is made from artist canvas and his halo is old tin scraps.

The frame is handmade (by me) and given a white rustic finish.

The painting is on 3/4 inch wood and I have given the pale green backround an old grungy finish.

Raising well mannered children

"Yes ma'am" ....maybe it's a southern thing, but that is how we have raised our children. Teaching children to be respectful is one of the best things a parent can do. It takes some work and it starts with you the parent.
Telling your child "Please and Thank you" is a great way to start and reminding them often to use these words is essential. Being raised in the South, saying "Ma'am and Sir" is a way of life, but "Please and Thank you" can easily replace the "Ma'am and Sir".
Nothing is more rewarding as a parent then to have someone compliment your child for being polite and respectful.
Being a polite and respectful child is also rewarding for the child.
Our daughter Leslie.

As a  member of the FFA (Future Farmers of America) Leslie won many ribbons and awards. She went on to become president of her high school FFA club.

Leslie participated in our local Harvest Queen pageant and always impressed the judges with her polite attitude.
So tell me what you think.
Do you make your children say "Ma'am and Sir" or "Please and Thank you"?
Do you think it makes a difference?
Leave me a comment and tell me what you think.

Dude, where's my kid?

"~Oh The boys are back in school~" (this is me singing to the melody of Thin Lizzy's "The boys are back in town)"

Our boys started back to school yesterday. Mikey is in the 5Th grade and Wyatt is in 3rd.

The first day was fine no problems, both of the boys were up and dressed ready for school before my alarm even went off at 6am. Out to the bus and it's right on time. Everyone came home still loving school.

Today I had to pry them out of bed. Give them instructions like, put your clothes on, brush you teeth and hair. Still out the door in perfect time for the bus. All is good....so I think.

I get a call at noon from the school. It's a recording telling me that Wyatt has an unexcused absence today at school....what? My first thought is it's a computer glitch, but then as I'm searching through the 1,000. papers that I got from their school yesterday my mind starts to freak out just a little.

Because out of three kids Wyatt was the only one to get lost at the mall when he was about 3yrs old. He also wondered off while at Sea World with my parents. Wyatt was the first and only one to get stitches...twice. So panic mode is kinda normal for me when it comes to Wyatt.

I called the school and told them that I got the call and had to spell his name three times to the girl answering the phones. I told her, if you don't have him where the heck is he? I put him on the bus! She puts me on hold for what seemed like forever and someone else picks up and tells me....Wyatt is here. Well, hallelujah!

She explained that some of the buses were late and if the kids didn't stop by the office to sign in they would be marked absent.

When the boys get home from school I asked if their bus was late this morning getting to school....no Mom, we were on time. hummmm

So later I asked if they had went to breakfast. (Mikey - No and Wyatt - yes) So the mystery is solved, Wyatt was not about to miss breakfast just because the bell had just rang. I explained to Wyatt that if it happens again he needs to stop by the office after breakfast and check in.

Milagros

Do you believe in Miracles?

Milagros, a Spanish word for Miracle, found in many areas of Latin America, are used by the people to petition saints for help or protection. In many of the churches, one can see wooden statues of various saints, the Virgin Mary, or of Christ. On these figures, the people often pin small metal images of arms, legs, animals, praying figures or other symbols of their prayers. Many are attached along with a written, personal note. I have even seen them attached alongside a "no-longer-needed" crutch or a similar object. These little metal charms or sacred milagros serve to remind the saint of the person's prayers or to thank the saint for prayers that have been answered. Each Milagro is specially made for a unique purpose, so the variety is enormous, and deeply personal. To witness these shrine-like testimonials is a very emotional, sacred event for me. I consider these privileged visits that should be respected in quiet reverence and unhurried, reflection.
